Icon 4x4 gets lavish short film treatment

Icon is one of the coolest American boutique vehicle builders around today, known in part for its talent of combining the looks of classic vehicles with modern powertrains and features to create something beautiful. A new video takes a sentimental look at the company's philosophy and at two of its more recent creations – the Thriftmaster truck and Chris Bruce

Take a ride with new Icon Chevy Thriftmaster truck

We were big fans of the Icon Chevrolet Thriftmaster when it debuted at the 2013 SEMA Show (okay, we're kind of big fans of whatever Icon does). Its retro looks and beautiful craftsmanship combined with a brawny 5.3-liter V8 make it seem like a prime vehicle for summer's night cruise.

Icon builds 'Iron Lung' Harley Davidson Sportster [w/video]

Icon is known for its stylized motorcycle helmets and gear, but it also builds themed, custom motorcycles, too. The folks over at Icon most recently built Iron Lung, which started out as a 1991 Harley-Davidson Sportster. Of course, it now looks nothing like the bike on which it's based - more like what Harley might have produced if it got into road racing a couple decades ago.

Icon's new old Thriftmaster is masterful, but hardly thrifty

If you've been jonesing for some news from Icon, the release of the E-Flyer electric bicycle the other day may or may not have done the trick. But either way, the Californian company known for retrofitting and restoring classic trucks is back with the Thriftmaster, which it has helpfully displayed on the show floor at SEMA (incidentally, with an E-Flyer in the bed).

Mercedes E63 AMG Wagon pitted against Icon Derelict

Jonny Lieberman hates his job. And who wouldn't, we ask you? Hanging out at racetracks, driving two of the very coolest high-performance station wagons on the planet and, of course, dressing up funny for nobody's benefit but yours, Internet Denizen. Sounds terrible, right?

ICON will debut '65 Dodge pickup project at SEMA

SEMA is right around the corner, folks, and that means a whole slew of custom auto builders are working furiously to finish project cars in time for their Vegas introductions. One of the coolest is bound to come from ICON. Based on a 1965 Dodge D200 crew cab that previously saw use by the U.S. military, we fully expect ICON's latest to be in the running for best-of-show

Epic motorcycle adventure: Portland to Dakar

The brief was simple: test Icon's new Raiden all-condition, all-weather motorcycle gear by putting two riders through all conditions and every kind of weather. The result is a 30-minute mini-movie called The Raiden Files that puts Ernie Vigil and The New Guy on a ride from Portland, Oregon to Dakar, Senegal with a few stops along the way.

Icon Derelict DeSoto cools its heels in Jay Leno's Garage

Of all the shops turning out cool hardware these days, few get us as excited as Icon. And while their off-road beasts are heart-stopping in their execution and attention to detail, it's the company's Derelict line that really gets us grinning. Icon founder Jonathon Ward swung by Jay Leno's Garage to show off his latest creation: a 1952 Chrysler/DeSoto wagon with modern bones underneath. Ward start

Icon Bronco rumbles into Jay Leno's Garage

According to Jay Leno, "The only time people in L.A. go off-roading is when they are about to get a D.U.I." That may be the case, but if you are looking to hit the trails with something inherently tough, but with a classic look, the folks at Icon are the people to see about it. The builder, known for retro-look off-roaders with serious trail chops, has done its thing with the CJ and FJ. Now the

Icon, Mattel speak on FJ40 trademark claims

Things are looking up for Icon. The company just moved from its tiny original location to a sprawling new facility, and every machine its craftsmen produce is sold before the final bolts are tightened. There's even talk of finding ways to triple production in order to keep up with demand. In addition to the off-road titans and clever Zach Bowman

Icon recreating DB4 GT Zagato as convertible with modern mechanicals

Icon 4x4's portfolio of projects, which includes such stunners as the reanimated Bronco and deliciously decaying Derelicts, is evidence enough that founder and designer Jonathan Ward and company have the Midas Touch when it comes to laying hands upon cars from yesteryear. Their next project, however, takes them in yet another new
