2019 Lexus ES gets new F Sport trim, Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay

Completely redesigned model is first Lexus on TNGA platform

Lexus gave us a good preview of the new ES luxury sedan ahead of its Beijing reveal, and now we get to see the real thing. Visually, it's pretty typical Lexus fare. It has the ever-controversial "spindle" grille up front with either form-following slats on standard models, or a sportier mesh on the new F Sport trim, a first for the model. It's about 2 inches, give or take a few tenths, longer both in o

2019 Toyota Avalon vs. full-size sedans: How they compare on paper

New Avalon vs. LaCrosse, Impala, Maxima and Lexus ES

Full-size sedans aren't exactly in great demand at the moment, and at least one of the vehicles in this comparison has been rumored to be on the endangered species list. Yet, we've just had our first drive in the 2019 Toyota Avalon, and if anything has a chance of rejuvenating the segment a bit, it's an all-new version of what has long been the segment's benchmark.

2019 Lexus ES revealed before Beijing debut

Here's what we know ahead of the full reveal

After revealing the grille of the 2019 Lexus ES last week, Lexus posted a single photo of the whole shebang this morning. We last wrote about the Lexus GS one year ago to editorialize about the rumored death of the luxury brand's sports sedan. Now, Dutch outlet AutoRAI claims to have gotten confirmation from Lexus Europe that the automaker stopped taking orders for the GS in March, and will cease production of the Euro-spec model in April. In keeping with last year's speculation, AutoRAI reports the next-generation, front-wheel-drive ES will fill the role of the rear-wheel-drive GS there.

%Slideshow-281535%Lexus will debut a new version of its ES sedan at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month. Don't expect it to be a total redesign, however – with the sixth-generation ES having just gone on sale in late 2012, we're only expecting a mid-cycle refresh.

Optimistic Lexus bumps US sales target higher

Last year Lexus sold 244,166 cars in the US, slotting into third place in the luxury segment behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Earlier this year Lexus said its target was 260,000 units in the US (which would still put it behind BMW's and Mercedes' numbers from last year), but Automotive News reports that it has raised its upper outlook to 270,000 ca
